Jim Reeves - Distant Drums

This wonderful song was composed by none other than Miss Cindy Walker, I'm not sure exactly how many she wrote, but it was a bunch, and did you know who actually recorded this one first? Another infamous artist, Roy Orbison, he recorded it in 1963 some 3 years before Jim did, but Roy's release met with less than sucess, Jim finally did it the year he died, and when he did record it he assumed the recording was for Cindy Walkers personal use, man was he ever wrong, and so was Chet Atkins and RCA both stated the record was unsuitable for commercial release, the first release of Jim's cover didn't sound to good, so after his death the composition was overdubbed with orchestral backing and this is the version that climbed the charts in both the UK and US, Roy may have done it first, but Jim's cover has stood the test of the years and will live on in infamy, love this song, enjoy, Dave
