Guy Mitchell - 'Ridin' Around in the Rain' - Audio & Stills (1960's)

A lttle known number by Guy Mitchell from the 1960's... In the early sixties Guy Mitchell continued to record for Columbia, but his time in the top of the pops seemed to be at an end. He recorded a number of tunes with the orchestra of Monty Kelly such as two Disney movie songs - "Fun And Fancy Free" and "Zip-A-Dee Doo Dah", "Riding Around In The Rain" and "Meet The Sun Half Way". He also recorded in Nashville with country music session veterans saxist Boots Randolph, bassist Junior Huskey, and guitarist Pete Drake among others. During this time he strengthened his country persona by recording a couple of LPs for the Starday label in Nashville and a recurring part in the TV series "Whispering Smith" and a motion picture called "The Wild Westerners". By the late sixties Mitchell went into retirement as a singer and turned to ranching where he stayed out of the spotlight for more than a decade. RIDIN' AROUND IN THE RAIN Carmen Lombardo (m) Gene Austin (l) Guy Mitchell I recall the night, The stars were out of sight, We were ridin' around in the rain. I asked her for a kiss, She said she didn't kiss, We kept ridin' around in the rain. Then I held her hand But she didn't understand, And it all seemed so in vain. Then she answered yes And I found happiness, A-ridin' around in the rain. So don't wait for June nights And don't wait for moonlights, Don't linger down in Lovers' Lane; Wait and pick a dark night, A dark and stormy night, Take her ridin' around in the rain. A penthouse, apartments, were all the same to me, My sweetie was very discontented. No chance for romance as far as I could see, But now my sweetie has repented! I recall the night, The stars were out of sight, Ridin' around in the rain; And I asked her for a kiss, She said she didn't kiss, Kept ridin' around in the rain. Then I held her hand But she didn't understand, And it all seemed so in vain. Then she answered yes Found happiness, A-ridin' around in the rain. So don't wait for June nights, Don't look for moonlights, Don't linger down in Lovers' Lane; Wait and pick a night, Some dark and stormy night, Take her ridin' around in the rain, Oh how they weaken in the rain! I take no credit for the still photos
