Pregnant Kate braves the snow to visit National Portrait Gallery THE pregnant Duchess of Cambridge has braved the cold and snow, showing off her blooming baby bump as she arrived at the National Gallery in London tonight just weeks before the royal baby is due. The Duchess of Cambridge, who is around seven months pregnant with her third child, stunned in a floral Orla Kiely dress as she arrived at the Gallery to unveil the Patron's Trail and visit the Victorian Giants exhibition. Kate braved the snow and ice as the 'Beast from the East' batters the UK with freezing winds from Siberia. The duchess, who has been patron of the gallery since 2012, wrote a foreword to the event as well as captions for several selected images at the exhibition Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography. The display showcases for the first time together portraits by influential artists Oscar Rejlander, Lewis Carroll, Julia Margaret Cameron and Lady Clementina Hawarden. Kate animately spoke with staff at the gallery as she perused the portraits on display. In a foreword to the exhibition, the duchess who is an art history graduate, wrote: "This period in the history of photography has long interested me. "As a student at the University of St Andrews, I chose it as the subject of my undergraduate thesis and photographs of children in particular, which feature predominantly within the exhibition, are of real interest to me." After touring the exhibition, she enjoyed a reception, meeting guests including staff who have worked on the collection. It was the second royal engagement of the day for Kate, who earlier attended a forum with her husband the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle to celebrate the work of the Royal Foundation. An enthusiastic amateur photographer herself, Kate has released photographs of her own children to mark the milestones in their lives, including George's first day at nursery and Charlotte's first birthday. Exhibition curator Dr Phillip Prodger said: "She was very self deprecating about that, and she did explain to me that somewhere in her family archives she has stashed away her undergraduate thesis, and there was a moment when she asked her family if she couldn't retrieve it, but no one could find the document." Earlier today Meghan Markle made her royal debut alongside Kate and Prince William with her fiancé Prince Harry in their first official royal engagement as a four. There were laughs from Meghan, Kate, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry when they were quizzed over whether they ever had disagreements when working together. There was a round of applause as Prince William said he and Kate were delighted to welcome Meghan into the family on this "special day". William, Kate, Harry and former Suits star Meghan appeared on stage together to discuss why The Royal Foundation was set up, the projects they are currently working on, and their ambitions for the years ahead. During his opening address, William took the opportunity to tell listeners he was “particularly happy to be at our first Royal Foundation event with Meghan”. His wife, Kate, turned to her future sister-in-law to give Meghan a round of applause. Meghan and Kate were sat next to each other in the centre of the row of brightly coloured modern chairs for the Q&A session. At several stages, they mirrored each other's body language - with both holding their hands together in their lap. kate middleton | It's blooming cold |
