The western section of Tasmania is rough, wild, beautiful and most impressive of all, nearly desolate of two-legged humans. Hobart, Australia's second oldest city, contains nearly half of all the Tasmanians living on the island and yet it is a rather small city of a quarter million. Long a seaport, the city is built around Sullivan's Cove and the Derwent River. Every Saturday when thousands of locals and tourists descend on Salamanca Market, an outdoor collection of over 300 stalls where entrepreneurs sell just about anything though almost every booth has a connection to Tasmania.
