AVCA Video Tip of the Week: Let Your Athletes Experiment

Mark Rosen, Head Coach at the University of Michigan, has a theory: let your players experiment with new skills, techniques and strategies. He talks about when the jump float serve first came into fashion, and he wasn't sure how to teach it. So, he let the players figure it out for him by giving them just one parameter for the doubles drill they were playing: your feet can't be on the ground when you contact the ball when serving. By letting his players experiment and develop technique, small tweaks could be made but players had the freedom to find what worked for them.
