Terri Lyne Carrington on her musical education and development
Drummer, bandleader and producer Terri Lyne Carrington talks about her early (very early) musical education. Carrington, the daughter of a musician - was a true prodigy sitting in the jazz greats like Clark Terry, Louie Bellson and others before she was a teenager. Carrington also talks about her approach to teaching drums and jazz in her role as the Zildjian professor at Berklee.
This interview was taped backstage at the 2017 Newport Jazz Festival, where Carrington performed with Esperanza Spalding and three guest pianists - Vijay Iyer, Christian Sands and Jason Moran - who each had been strongly influenced by Geri Allen.
