Maysa Leak is certainly well-known for her lead vocals during her hiatus with the British jazz/funk R&B band, Incognito! But when you listen to this Diva songstress deliver such silky grooves like this one…you don’t have to ask why she made the move to go solo. With this track, Maysa pays tribute to one of the greatest soul singers from the 70s and 80s…the remarkable soul-intensified Teddy P [RIP]!
Ever since she released her first solo album in 1995, Maysa has stormed the contemporary soul and jazz world with a quality grade of music that her fans are accustomed to and her peers admire. A few of my favorite albums are “Metamorphosisâ€; “Motions of Loveâ€; and the more recent release “Blue Velvet Soul, all off the Shanachie label. There is no coincidence to the fact that a couple of her previous albums reached #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart. Maysa has shared the stage with some “heavy hitter†artists, such as, Gerald Veasley, Rick Braun, Will Downing, Johnathan Butler, and Pieces of A Dream, to name a few. In 2009, Maysa won the first new Soul Train Award named for the brand's new owners, CENTRIC, The Centric Award: Soul Approved/Underground.
