Labelle ~ Lady Marmalade 1974 Disco Purrfection Version

One thing about spring in 1975, it was late coming but songs on the radio at the time like this one put fire in my soul! The songwriters Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan had their second consecutive hit with this one after Frankie Valli's "My Eyes Adored You" hit #1. The man responsible for the sound of "Lady Marmalade" was producer Allen Toussaint, who brought the New Orleans style of R&B to the table and helped to create a smash hit that still fills the dance floor today. Their funky backing band, The Meters were known for their precision playing and also hailed from New Orleans. The song first hit in the disco clubs and then radio stations were bombarded with calls to play it. In 2001, Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya & Pink recorded the song for the movie "Moulin Rouge" and it became a #1 hit again this time for five weeks! I have the dance version of the 2001 recording that is just smokin'! But here is my take on the original...
