Who Was Randy Shilts?

Randy Shilts, BS '77, was a UO School of Journalism and Communication alumnus, author, and the first openly gay reporter to work for a major newspaper. His bestselling book about the AIDS crisis, "And The Band Played On," was made into an HBO film of the same name that won nine awards, including an Emmy for "Outstanding Made for Television Movie." Shilts passed away on February 17, 1994.
