Norway announces pledge of $228 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.

AIDS, TB, and malaria are three of the deadliest diseases the world has ever known. In 2017 alone, 940,000 died from AIDS, 1.6 million from TB, and 435,000 from malaria. These diseases pose both threats to global health security and the lives of girls and women in developing countries, where 75% of new HIV cases are among girls and women age 15-24. All of these diseases, however, are preventable and treatable. The good news? Progress is happening. In 2002, the world came together like never before and created the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria — since then, 32 million lives have been saved. The Global Fund has funded clinics, supported nurses and doctors, and helped keep people healthy and safe. But after years of remarkable advances, new threats have slowed progress and enabled these diseases to gain ground. Now, Global Citizen and the Global Fund are calling on the world to step up the fight to defeat these diseases by 2030 once again. In 2019, there’s a unique opportunity to take a massive step toward achieving the goal of ending these epidemics by 2030. On Oct. 10, world leaders will gather in France to pledge new money to the Global Fund. If the money needed is raised, 16 million more lives will be saved over the next three years — a huge stride toward ending AIDS, TB, and malaria by 2030. Add your name to this powerful promise to the next generation and encourage governments to step up the fight. https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/action/set/end-aids-tb-and-malaria-by-2030/ _ Global Citizen is a social action platform for a global generation that aims to solve the world’s biggest challenges.
