Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review a lot of cars. Today I’m driving a 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid. I honestly hadn’t planned to shoot a Micah Drives with the Niro but interest in the YouTube comment section was robust. So here we are, driving a Niro in the rain.
For those who don’t know, the Niro is a hybrid crossover-ish vehicle (all-wheel drive is not available) that returns up to 52 mpg in the city and 49 on the highway. That’s great fuel economy though the fancier Touring trim cuts those numbers dramatically (46city/40hwy Touring). There’ a lot to admire about the Niro but, as you’ll see, there’s a notable shortcoming in how the engine, electric motor, and dual-clutch transmission deliver power. Oh, and if you ever wanted to hear me talk about brake feel in too much detail, this is your opportunity. You’ve been warned!
And just so the premise is ultra-clear, this is not a comprehensive review but rather a casual look at the 2019 Kia Niro Hybrid, while I live my normal life. Simple. Fun!
