Dragon Quest VII [3DS] Playthrough #008, Return to Estard; Present Ballymolloy

This is video #008 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past for the Nintendo 3DS. This playthrough is available with and without commentary. Now, the party needs to return to the Oddwoods to find the way back to Estard. The party leaves Ballymolloy (time 1:19). West of town, the party entered the Oddwoods (time 1:50). There, they talk to Patrick (time 2:11). He's happy about the flowers. He is also happy to receive the Wooden Doll that Maeve had given the party. I wonder if it makes him realize what happened to her. In the zone to the south, the party finds a blue portal (time 3:22). Stepping through takes them back to the Assembly Room in the Shrine of Mysteries! As they talk, a shake-up takes place. On the horizon, there is a flash. A familiar-looking island appears! The party not yet aware of what happened. Maribel seems to have had enough adventure for now. Kiefer runs off to the castle. The fairy asks the party to look out for additional fragments. To this end, he gives them one of the best new items in the 3DS version: the Fragment Detector. It will shine when a fragment is in the area, and it will flash faster when the fragment is in the same zone. We regain control of Davilas and Maribel in the Assembly Room (time 8:49). Unfortunately, Maribel won't let Davilas talk to the fairy to slot the fragments he acquired in the Ballymolloy area. A scene occurs as the party leaves the Shrine of Mysteries (time 10:41). Maribel insists on being taken directly back to Pilchard Bay, so they go there automatically. When they arrive, Maribel leaves the party and heads home. Davilas regains control in Pilchard Bay (time 11:16). So, now it's time to check around. At home, Davilas talks to Pearl (time 15:56). A new island has appeared, to the concern of all the residents. As a result, the King has summoned Pollock and Mayor Mayde for a royal conference. Davilas leaves Pilchard Bay (time 17:01). Following the road northwest, he heads to Estard (time 17:15). This town, too, is abuzz with news about the new island. There is also news about Uncle Pike's newest scam. Oh, dear. In Pike's house, Davilas talks to his wonderful uncle (time 19:59). Davilas gives Pike a couple of straight answers. In exchange, Pike gives the Wholly Holy Water! This key item will be useful in the upcoming fragment area. Davilas heads north to the grounds of Estard Castle (time 22:16). He finds the drawbridge drawn, which is a rare occurrence indeed. But he does find that the prince has gone to visit Dermot the Hermit. Davilas takes the path to Dermot's shack by the cliff (time 22:57). Outside the house, he finds Kiefer waiting (time 23:15). The prince knew Davilas would be by eventually. Dermot is part of the meeting, but the party is not! Darn. Kiefer asks Davilas to meet him at the Shoreside Shrine west of Pilchard Bay. Kiefer runs off. I wonder what kind of secret will allow the party to explore new islands... Davilas leaves Pilchard Bay (time 25:51). To the south, he arrives the Shoreside Shrine (time 26:08). Inside, he finds Kiefer ... and Maribel! Davilas talks to Kiefer (time 26:33). Kiefer and Davilas push the lid aside to reveal a stairway. The party goes down the stairs (time 28:07). At the end of the passage, they come to an old ship (time 28:15). Maribel's father had thought of it as a derelict, but Davilas and Kiefer have been working hard to restore it. Now it's time to set sail! The party gains control aboard the boat off the coast of Pilchard Bay (time 30:38). Note that there are random monster encounters while sailing the seas. Why are there monsters here and not on terra firma? The party disembarks at the new island north of Estard (time 33:55). They enter the familiar-looking town on the island (time 34:27). It's Ballymolloy! However, it looks a lot better than it used to. Outside the inn, one barrel contains a Seed of Agility (time 36:35). There is a merchant outside the inn, but I wouldn't bother with his wares. On the second floor of the town's tower where the inn used to be, the Fragment Detector goes wild. The party talks to the man here (time 40:47). They must tell him 'No', they are not interested in rainbow rocks. He gives them Green Fragment 2! He advises them to check for more such fragments in the Rainbow Mines. The description is continued in the comments.
