Copperfield was formed in Britian, but came to South Africa in 1974 on contract to play at a hotel in Durban, and subsequently settled. The original band members were: Terry Meredith (guitar), Peter Taylor (vocals), Chris Moore (lead guitar), Peter Ball (bass), Trevor Ellis (keyboards), Dave Dale (drums) and Richard Bailey (keyboards and flute - later joined British heavy metal band, "Magnum"). In 1980 Chris Moore, Peter Ball and Trevor Ellis left the band and were replaced by Bruce Bark (guitar and vocals, formerly with "The Zombies") and Gerry van Wyk (bass).
