Samsaya, "Institutionalized" (Suicidal Tendencies cover): Rhapsody Ones To Watch (VIDEO)

We first fell in love with Samsaya when we had her down by the river to perform acoustic during SXSW 2014. (Watch those video here, and here.) Those of there that day hit it off with her immediately. She invited us all to her show that night and it was one of the only shows we let ourselves see at SXSW since our video workload was so crazy. But we went and were blown away by her performance. She is really amazing live and she charms the crowd with her between-song banter, coming across as humble, sincere and real. And the music – well, it’s just great pop music. When we were making a selection of bands to bring into the studio for Ones To Watch I had to have Samsaya in, and we made it work during their first full tour to the US via Norway. Spending that day in the studio working on something together was tons of fun. They had just decided the day before to cover “Institutionalized” so most of the day was spent practicing the lyrics because they are sung so fast it;s really hard to nail.
