The Long And Winding Road (Will Young & Gareth Gates/The Beatles) cover
This cover is the version by Will Young & Gareth Gates (winner and runner-up of Pop Idol 2002 in the UK) of a classic song by The Beatles. "The Long and Winding Road" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1970 album Let It Be. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. When issued as a single in May 1970, a month after the Beatles' break-up, it became the group's 20th and last number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. It was the final single released by the quartet.
McCartney originally wrote the song at his farm in Scotland, and was inspired by the growing tension among the Beatles. McCartney said later "I just sat down at my piano in Scotland, started playing and came up with that song, imagining it was going to be done by someone like Ray Charles. I have always found inspiration in the calm beauty of Scotland and again it proved the place where I found inspiration". McCartney offered the song to Tom Jones as long at it was his next single. As Jones was already close to releasing "Without Love" it was not to be.
