AVCA Video Tip of the Week: Keep your Head up when Blocking
It's no mystery why blockers often tuck their heads when facing an attacker. Anyone who has been six-packed by a hard-driven volleyball knows that it doesn't feel good.
But as McMaster volleyball coach Dave Preston explains here, you have to get past that because keeping your head up is a big key to good blocking. For one thing, you have to see what you're blocking. Also, tucking your head can impact your technique in a negative way – like causing your hands to go back rather than penetrating over the net.
