So Long, Samson

We had to say goodbye to Samson, our beloved 11-year-old Labrador, today. He was the epitome of the words Good Dog. Those of you who met him know just what we mean. Sweet disposition, loving, kind. Good. Just good. Samson was the best, he was loved, and he is already sorely missed. We believe he's now chasing tennis balls and fetching big sticks to his heart's content in heaven, and that we will be reunited someday. The music accompanying this slideshow is "God and Dog" by Wendy Francisco, wife of old-time Christian singer Don Francisco. Pete often sang the song to Samson in the evenings, and sang it to him one last time this morning before we took him to the vet. He only had the energy to return it once, and then he was done. He picked up the ball and started walking slowly to the car, ball still in his mouth, as if to say, "Thanks, guys, for that one last fetch. I'm done now. I'm ready. Let's go." Go get 'em, Sampers.
