Throw Back Thursday #TBT - While searching for archival footage for "Broadway: BEYOND the Golden Age" look what my hard-working assistant Celia found today. Yes, from way, way back - your erstwhile Cabaret star of stage and scream, Rick McKay - before he ever picked up a movie camera. Here he is in a past-life singing about the after life. Accompanied by the legendary genius Wally Harper on piano and Bruce Samuels on bass. The tune is from Noel Coward’s HIGH SPIRITS (the musical version of Blithe Spirit) and was made famous by my pal Tammy Grimes and written by my dear Hugh Martin, with Timothy Gray - and a few special lyrics by himself here. Apologies to Tammy and Hugh (and Shirley) - none of whom were in my life at the time. Recorded at Danny’s in NYC in 1992.
