This version offered a Neck Pickup and additional cosmetic attributes such as a Mother of Pearl inlayed Gibson logo as well as binding on the neck. Many player's have fell in love with the simplicity of these and have used them as their main go to gigging guitars since they are considered 'affordable' 50s vintage. The Special was offered from 1955-1958 before switching to the double cut shape and today, will run you anywhere between 5-10k This model has been reissued many times since then but this year Guitar Center has commissioned a special run in a honey burst finish, with the budget player in mind. These are a top seller at $999 new with a Gig Bag. These current year models feature the same flat mahogany body and neck with rosewood finger board that make the originals so simple and perfect however, they lack the binding and inlayed Gibson logo to save on costs. This instrument has been upgraded from its original Gibson Gig Bag to one of the new Gibson Brown "Soft Shell" cases. These are way better than a Gig Bag and in some ways better than a hard case. No original paper work is available for this instrument. The Guitar! These just might be the best deal of 2019! These honeyburst specials are a Guitar Center Limited Edition Exclusive run and cost $999 + tax new. Since Guitar Center is the only one with these and they have physical presence in most states, that adds an additional $70-$150 on to the price! This slightly used one can be had with upgraded Soft case for $899 shipped. This guitar is in good condition. There are picking scratches and polishing swirls and a few pin sized dings on the top. The back has some very minor buckle impression marks that can be seen when held to the light. On the side of the headstock, there appears to be a small stand mark (pictured.) There will be other light signs of wear in the form of finger prints and smudges. Overall, this guitar maintains a clean appearance. The rosewood fretboard was just cleaned and conditioned. I hand picked this example for my official review because I fell in love with the intricate wood grain and dancing patterns. The long mark on the back is a long mineral streak line that also gives this guitar great character!
