Shirley Bassey - Reach For The Stars (1961 Recording)
1961 (Young Shirley Bassey recorded this beautiful song in 1961, and it reached #1 on the Charts. This was the Side (A) and Side (B) was Climb Every Mountain.
I don't even know if Shirley really promoted this one around the world, as it's one of those musical materpieces that not a lot of people outside of the UK are familiar with. But, when people listen to it, they can easily see why it sold so well at the time. This is a wonderful easily listening nostalgia piece, and Shirley's vocals are breathtaking, even with the limited record fidelity of the time that had difficulty capturing Shirley's high fidelity vocal abilities.
LYRICS:
I reach for the stars when I reach for your love
For so far above me you always will be
Like a clown longs to be a king in a play
I long for the things that are so far away
I reach for the stars when I reach for your hand
But stars tumble down from the clouds to the land
When you come to my arms in that moment divine
All the stars in the sky are mine, all mine
I reach for the stars when I reach for your hand
But stars tumble down from the clouds to the land
When you come to my arms in that moment divine
All the stars in the sky are mine,
All mine
