Bajista mexicano toca "Omaha", de Counting Crows.
Well, here it is: first recording after shielding my bass, and I gotta say, it is much better. It didn't completely eliminate the noise, but it improved it for sure. I'm guessing the noise I have left is either normal, or coming from old age, or bad wiring, since it doesn't shut up, even if I'm touching the metal parts, but I'm very happy.
In case you didn't see the pictures I posted on my Facebook PookLowEnd profile, every step of the process went perfectly until it was time to reassemble it, when I pulled a little too hard on one on the cables and it disconnected from the pickups. After a small panic attack, my girlfriend convinced me to go buy a solder, and she fixed it in no time. I didn't know I was dating a badass solder.
I'd never even opened a bass before, and loved this experience so much I am seriously thinking to build a bass from scratch; I've always wanted an expensive J-Bass, so maybe that'll be my project.
Thank you to my buddy Kelvin for helping me out, and PooSay Melter for pointing out the problem in the first place, and letting me know what to do.
About the song, when it comes to the Counting Crows, I've only seen bass covers of "Mr. Jones". The bass is so smooth throughout the whole of "August...", like in this song. It is the perfect example that a bass line doesn't have to be overcomplicated to fit the song perfectly. The minimalistic aspect of it reaches new heights during the chorus; it's a great tune for beginners to practice in!
