His birth name is James Warren Taylor, but professionally he is known to his fans as “JT”. He was with Kool & the Gang from 1978 to 1989 prior to embarking on his solo career. If you know how “musically” amazing Kool and the Gang is… and how “iconic” they are in the music community…or how JT’s voice on “Ladies Night” blew up the charts…then it shouldn’t surprise you that JT would eventually get on the solo path. Here are some things you may not know about JT: he was a school teacher and amateur nightclub singer before he joined Kool and the Gang. In 1989, he released his first solo album, “Masters of the Game”, which produced several hit songs. “Baby I’m Back”, released in 1993, is his third solo album. It seems the “acting” bug hit JT because in the early 1990s he appeared in the film The Mambo Kings and in a Broadway musical of the show, Raisin. Fans can take heart in knowing that JT is still an active member of Kool and the Gang and often performs with them at various music events.
