Linux permissions: files, directories, users and groups | Linux Tutorial for Beginners
A Linux tutorial covering 5 commands for Linux permissions including sudo and su to temporarily change identities for administrator actions. We walk through file and directory modes and use chmod to change modes with a link to octal, binary and mode methods. We review the id command to see uid, gid and groups plus review the /etc/passwd file and /etc/group file. We finish the sprint with a chown to change ownership of a file. We also practice with commands: whatis, apt-get, whoami, ls and less.
