Andy Kim ~ Rock Me Gently 1974 Disco Purrfection Version
You can blame Andy Kim for writing The Archies #1 hit, "Sugar Sugar". He wrote and recorded five Top 40 songs 1968-1970, but his biggest solo success was 1974's "Rock Me Gently". Signed to MCA in late 1970 after a few releases without any hits, he was dropped by the label and spent a few years regrouping and writing new music. He spearheaded his own Ice label in Canada and released the single "Rock Me Gently". Since he didn't have a lot of money, instead of recording another song, he simply added the instrumental version to the B side. He brought the song to his former promoter who then worked for Capitol, who in turn signed him and released it. Capitol Records achieved its 30th #1 single and Andy was on his way. A second single from the album tanked and Andy faded from the charts. In 1980, he adopted the name Baron Longfellow and released two LPs, and the second one had the single "I'm Gonna Need A Miracle Tonight" in 1984 using several members of the band Toto as backing musicians. In any case, here is his moment in the summer sun...this one seemed to have played all summer long in 1974.
