The Fragility Of Life And The Triumph Of The Human Spirit - Harp Samuels' 'Breathe'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Having lost his father last year, it would have been easy for Australian folktronica genius to lay down his musical weapons and retreat into silence. Far from it, the grief he suffered drew him closer to his art and music and has led to this, the lead track from his forthcoming album of the same name, 'Breathe'. As delicate as eggshells, Harp's glossy atmospherics and plaintive singing are endlessly poignant, taking music to a spiritual level which is both cathartic and redemptive. A track to capture hearts and minds, 'Breathe' reminds you that even fleeting moments are to be cherished and that new beginnings are to be embraced, not to be shunned.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, though with dual citizenship with New Zealand, Harp Samuels is both a musician, photographer and film-maker. His music revolves around his often vocodered, rarefied vocals and acoustic guitar playing, though is embellished with swooning synthesisers, with each sound curated to create a specific mood. Distorted sounds create a feeling of unease and edginess, contrasting with, to use Harp's own description, "celestial sounds", giving a more hopeful, metaphysical tone. With an almost obsessive attention to detail, the album itself is arranged in alphabetical order (A-I for this album), each track flowing into the next to create a single themed project.

Painstakingly self-produced and mixed at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne (Cat Power; Neil Finn) on both digital and analogue equipment, Harp Samuel's songs are to be cherished, like pulses from far off galaxies, they slowly seep into your very being, the raw vulnerability and the washes of electronic tides being impossible to resist.
