Usually it means nothing; mere hack hyperbole employed to describe the latest fledgling bunch of chancers. In Gang Of Four's case, it's a stone-cold empirical fact. So the time is right for a return of the great men themselves with a (sort of) new album. 'Return The Gift' is a double-album that finds Go4 re-recording seminal tracks from 'Entertainment!', 'Solid Gold' and 'Songs Of The Free'. The second disc finds Go4 handing selected tracks over to a slew of contemporary artists and producers such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs (listen out for Karen O's backing vocals on 'I Love A Man In Uniform'), Ladytron, The Rakes, The Dandy Warhols and producer du jour Paul Epworth. Complete track-listing of both CDs are as follows: CD 1 (14 tracks) To Hell With Poverty / Damaged Goods / Natural's Not In It / Not Great Men / Why Theory? / Anthrax / Paralysed / What We All Want / Ether / He's Send The Army / Capital / I Love A Man In Uniform / At Home He's A Tourist / We Live As We Dream, Alone CD 2 (12 tracks) To Hell With Poverty (Go Home Productions Remix) / Natural's Not In It (Ladytron Remodel) / I Love A Man In Uniform (Yeah Yeah Yeahs Remix (W.I.P)) / Ether (Tony Kanal from No Doubt Remix) / At Home He's A Tourist (The Others Remix) / Not Great Men (Phones – Paul Epworth – Remix) / Anthrax (Faultline Remix) / Damaged Goods (Hot Hot Heat Remix) / Why Theory? (Amusement Parks On Fire Remix) / Natural's Not In It (Repackaged By The Rakes) / At Home He's A Tourist (The Others Alternate Mix) / What We All Want (Dandy Warhols Remix) Gang Of Four also release a download and 7' single of the new version of the seminal 1981 track 'To Hell With Poverty' on August 22nd. The white label 7' features the 'Go Home Productions' remix on the B-side. Gang Of Four play the Barbican on September 24th as part of the 'Don't Look Back' season of gigs which invites artists to present a retrospective of one of their works in its entirety. Gang Of Four will be performing their 1979 opus 'Entertainment' (which featured the classis single 'Damaged Goods') on the night. GANG OF FOUR are: Jon King (vocals), Andy Gill (guitar), Dave Allen (bass), Hugo Burnham (drums)
