NEW YORK (mexiconowfestival.org) - Celebrate México Now is a New York citywide festival showcasing the vanguard of contemporary Mexican art and culture. Encompassing architecture, cuisine, dance, film, music, theatre, and visual art, the two-week festival provides New York City with a glimpse of the most intriguing artists and ideas pouring out of Mexico today. To Kick off the festival on September 1st at Joe's Pub with music by Ernesto Villa-Lobos & Bamba-NY, followed by a double bill by Sweet Electra and Album. Sweet Electra's "acid cabaret" explores deep house and trip-hop beats, elements of jazz and bossa nova and "rescued" Mexican sounds from the 1950´s, with lyrics in Portuguese, French, English, Japanese, and Spanish. Led by producer/guitarist/programmer Giovanni Escalera, Sweet Electra features lead vocalist Nardiz Cooke and Latin percussion by Diego Alcazar. Making their NY debut, Monterrey's alternative pop quartet Album's blend of electronic beats, rock riffs, synths, quirky sense of humor and warm vocal melodies has earned them comparisons to the Beta Band, Radiohead and Beck.
