David Denny broke his leg on an icy tarmac, shuttling between his home in San Francisco and Miller's Idaho ranch. Held captive in Miller's guest house until his leg healed, and all hopped up on pain killers,
David set about to relieve the tedium by making a video blog.
Meanwhile, back in San Francisco, recording artist Cousin Isaac was editing together video footage of a live performance of his that David Denny had shot a few years back. Just as Isaac was looking for someone to help him edit the video, David emailed Isaac his video blog. It was kismet.
Working together via email, David Denny edited the raw footage which Isaac uploaded to his web server. Using Apple's iMovie video editing software, Denny was able to create an entire music video for Cousin Isaac's song "Door to Door" from just a few video clips. "The footage was of a different song altogether," says Isaac, "David did an amazing job getting everything to sync up."
David Denny, a true renaissance man, can now add videographer to his list of many talents. David, who toured with the Steve Miller band back in the 70's, is a musician, recording engineer, and actor. David has a one man play which he performs about his touring days entitled "Marie, 21 and Flying."
Cousin Isaac met David Denny in the mid 90's while working with David's wife, Kathy Peck, the Executive Director of H.E.A.R., (https://hearnet.com) a hearing health organization for musicians, that got it's start with the help of Pete Townsend from the Who. Peck, who is also in the seminal punk band the Contractions that are now enjoying a resurgence had hired Isaac after he did some volunteer work for the organization. Isaac worked with H.E.A.R. for several years as it's creative director while pursuing his own music career.
Cousin Isaac's song "Door to Door", which is about door to door evangelism, is the first track on his latest CD "Prepare for Departure" which he recorded mostly in Japan. "It's funny, because as I was recording the song, Japanese Jehovah's Witnesses actually came to my door. I didn't even know they existed in Japan. Very strange."
Taking a cue from the proselytizers, Cousin Isaac started going door to door himself, albeit to record shops, to get his CD onto shelves. In Japan, Cousin Isaac visited Jet Set records (Cousin Isaac calls his style "music for the jet set,") who he says were interested in the fact that he had worked with Dj. Design, who appears in the video. DJ Design's band Foreign Legion are 'big in Japan.'
