Austin, TX. (Top40 Charts/ Mage Records) - Lovers of cats, Celtic songs and music in general can rejoice in a beautifully-produced CD by Austin-based independent musician Marc Gunn. Collaborating with producer Rich Brotherton, Gunn's newest CD features 12 songs about cats and all their idiosyncrasies.
The soul of the album is Gunn's uncanny ability to take traditional Irish songs and spin them to celebrate the cat. A long time cat lover, the songwriter is adept at giving us a "cat's eye" perspective of such classic tunes as "Molly Malone," "Danny Boy," and "What Shall We Do With a Catnipped Kitty."
The first cat parody album, "Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers," was wildly popular. According to Gunn, "I never imagined people would love this concept as much as they did. I just did it, because I love Celtic music, and I love cats."
The second album also represents a unique collaboration between Gunn and his cat-loving fans: ideas and lyrics for songs on the album were contributed by fans of the first album. The cover art is by Celtic artist Ingrid Houwers.
Collaborating musicians include: Rich Brotherton, James "Cedric" Hazelrig, Christopher Bucklely, Bethany Duke, Michelle Hedden, Vicky Swan, Jonny Dyer, Hannah Gunn, Tom Smith, Ari Koinuma, Ben Hamby, Blake McCaig, Franco Bordoni.
