Nashville, TN (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Award-winning Film and Record producer Booka Michel has assembled an all-star group of Austin musicians for the highly acclaimed soundtrack to the indie comedy film Baghdad Texas. Baghdad Texas completed a successful run on the international film festival circuit, beginning with its World Premiere at the Palm Springs Film Festival in January of 2009, and culminating with an appearance at this year's Cannes Film Festival in May 2010. At the apex of the movie's film festival run, the soundtrack was released, and shortly afterward garnered a Top Four Album of the Year from The Philadelphia City Paper and a Top Ten Album of the Year from The Boston Herald.

Michel performed on, composed and produced the album, recording it with longtime Austin musicians John Reed (Doug Sahm, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Marsha Ball), Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Asleep At The Wheel), Glenn Fukunaga (Joe Ely, The Dixie Chicks), Ray Benson (Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel), Ralph White (Bad Livers) and Zhenya Rock (Red Elvises).

Michel composed the music based on three genres - Latin, Americana and Middle Eastern - inspired by the film's main characters. In this wry clash-of-cultures comedy, a Middle Eastern dictator flees his besieged country, only to have his plane crash on the Mexican Border. He is inadvertently carried into Texas by illegal immigrants who encounter a group of American ranchers, who, when they think they've discovered his true identity, decide to be heroes - each in his own way.

A well-known percussionist from Austin, Texas, Booka Michel has performed with Butch Hancock, Odetta, Flaco Jimenez, Peter Yarrow, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Jimmie Carl Black, Townes Van Zandt and many others.
