New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) On February 5, Dead Oceans will release Night Beds' debut album 'Country Sleep.' Today, NPR Music premieres the riveting new music video for "Even If We Try" directed by Rick Alverson ('The Comedy'): https://n.pr/S07q1I
Night Beds is the creation of 23-year-old Colorado Springs native Winston Yellen. In 2011, Yellen moved to a pre-civil war home on the outskirts of Nashville, previously owned by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Over the course of 10 months, he wrote and recorded 'Country Sleep' in the rented Hendersonville home and at Nashville's Brown Owl studio. The result is a collection of modern country soul in the tradition of great American songwriters like Alex Chilton and Mark Kozelek, that's been called "lush" (Brooklyn Vegan) and "gorgeous" (Daytrotter). Time Out NY recently raved Night Beds is "your new favorite band.... exquisitely pretty, dark."
Yellen stars in the "Even if We Try" music video, playing a loner character that's trying to fit in at a seedy Nashville party. "Given how gentle and beautiful the song is, I wanted to make something adamantly in contrast to that," says Alverson. "I wanted the video to be dark and devastating, out-of-bounds and animalistic," says Winston. (Music video still below)
Night Beds will headline NYC's Piano's on December 11 where they will preview songs from 'Country Sleep.' Night Beds plan to tour the U.S. extensively in 2013.
