Amanda Palmer From New York Wins The Leader In The Digital Age Award 2013 In The "Entertainment" Category
Hannover, Germany (Top40 Charts / doubleYUU GmbH & Co. KG) A musician who lets her fans vote on the title of her new album? Make no mistake - Amanda Palmer is a very special artist indeed. In her solo career, the former singer of the Dresden Dolls relies totally on networking and staying in close communication with the people she inspires with her music. Amanda Palmer twitters her heart out every day, and her last album was completely financed by her fans. About $1.2 million were raised after she announced her intentions via the crowdsourcing platform Kickstarter. Palmer set a new record here - no-one had ever used Kickstarter to collect a sum like that for a project before. In fact, no musician had ever obtained more than $200,000 via the platform until then. With the money she collected, Palmer financed the promotion and production of her new album and her concert tour. Her fans will be getting the new album "Theatre is evil" out of it, and some of them will even receive an invitation to a personal meeting or a private concert.

"The permanent close cooperation with her fans and the clever mobilization of her supporters makes the US musician a shining example for other artists in search of concepts allowing creative people to organize and finance themselves in future. This is why Amanda Palmer is being presented with the Leader in the Digital Age Award 2013 in the "Entertainment" category," says Minister Olaf Lies . The LIDA Award, which is presented on behalf of Niedersachsen's Minister of Economics, Labour and Transport, is awarded to pioneers who use the potential of the digital age in an exemplary way to realize their projects.

For a long time now, Palmer has been maintaining an extremely close relationship with her fans and supporters via Twitter and a blog of her own. Now she is also demonstrating how you can realize a project even if you haven't got a classical record company backing you. At the same time, she uses Twitter and her blog to recruit guest musicians for spontaneous performances during her concerts - which is not only an intelligent method of advertising her gigs but also an excellent way to expand her musical horizons.

For Palmer, this close contact with the people she inspires with her music is nothing less than the future of the music industry. She believes that the classical entertainment industry has now reached the end of the line. Digitalization and networking allow - and require - artists to increasingly network with their audience and other creative people.

"I am honored to receive the Leader in Digital Age Award. It's great to see that crowdfunding is getting the attention it deserves. Crowdfunding as a tool gives creative people the power to produce their work outside traditional systems," Amanda Palmer said. "This challenges the conception of how the entertainment business is supposed to function. Connecting directly with the audience and others artists empowers you to take your creativity to a new level."

Recipes for success in the digital revolution
No matter whether it's in the "Entertainment", "Managers", "Pioneers" or "Non-profit" category, the LIDA Award sets out to demonstrate how pioneers achieve economic success and change markets by sharing information, knowledge or talent. With her work in this direction, Amanda Palmer is an excellent addition to the existing series of award-winners.

Laudator, jury member and LIDA initiator Dr. Willms Buhse : " Amanda Palmer relies on openness and transparency combined with authenticity by letting her fans have a say. In the networked age, these principles open up new resources, regardless of whether it's commitment to cultural projects, information exchange in companies or just highly efficient forms of cooperation you're talking about."

The LIDA Award in the "Entertainment" category and the prizes in the "Managers", "Pioneers" and "Non-profit" categories" will be presented at the award-giving ceremony to be held at the CeBIT on 6 March 2013. For more details please go to: https://www.lidaaward.com.

The Leader in the Digital Age Award (LIDA Award):
The LIDA Award is presented on behalf of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Labour and Transport. The aim of the award is to draw attention to future-proof management models which promote the principles of the digital age - openness, transparency and agility - and the people who develop them. The prize, which has been awarded since 2011, developed from cooperation between the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics and more than 20 well-known German companies under the leadership of Dr. Willms Buhse , expert for networked cooperation and founder of the management consultancy doubleYUU. The 2013 jury chaired by Minister Bode included the following people: Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch , Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG, Prof. Dr. Carsten Winter , Department of Journalism and Communication Research (IJK) at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH), Thomas Spreitzer , CMO T-Systems International, Maria Gomez , Director Collaboration Solutions, IBM Germany, Herbert K. Haas , CEO Talanx AG, Cordelia Krooß, Senior Community Manager BASF and LIDA award-winner in the "Newcomers" category and Dr. Willms Buhse .
