Daniel Dickinson, an up-and-coming talent from Jacksonville, FL, has been a musically minded since his childhood. His gifts have always pushed him forward to new, big ideas. But within the last few years, his advancement has taken off with an unprecedented ferocity, which he will tell you is due to the tremendous teaching he has received from such world class musicians as Lynne Arriale, Todd Del Giudice, and Bunky Greene. Daniel has received numerous honors from organizations at the local, state, and national level, including the 2011 outstanding soloist award from Downbeat magazine, the Jeep McCoy scholarship from the North East Florida Jazz Association, and has written multiple pieces including some premiered at various consortiums such as the JEN convention and the Next Generation jazz festival in Monterey, California.

Daniel has also performed with artists such as: the Jacksonville Symphony, The Savannah Philharmonic, Ben Folds, Jennifer Holliday, The Spinners, and many others, and has had the honor of sharing the stage with some of the country's greatest musicians, such as: Marcus Printup, Kurt Elling, Randy Brecker, and Danilo Perez. Daniel is currently pursuing an undergraduate double major in jazz studies on the saxophone and clarinet performance at the University of North Florida, where he has studied with: Bunky Green, Todd Del Giudice, Lynne Arriale, Larua Dwyer, Sunshine Simmons, and Guy Yehuda. Daniel had the honor of being involved in the 2014 Disney All-American College Band presented by Yamaha, for which he was selected from a collection of musicians auditioning from all around the country, covering all degree levels, forming a group of 21 musicians. Daniel's debut album has recently been recorded, which includes a host of famed jazz artists including: Ulysses Owens, Jr., Christian Sans, Mike Dease, and Reuben Rogers. This collaboration between Daniel as bandleader and Ulysses as producer and drummer is a representation of Daniel's skills as composer, arranger, improviser and soloist in an amalgamation of compositions written over the course of his time at the university, as well as the voices of each musician involved.

The impetus for this project was conceived when I had the pleasure of presenting one of my compositions to Ulysses when he had arrived in Jacksonville, FL to give a master class. The resulting correspondence culminated in a collaboration featuring some of the best musicians around today. As you can hear on the record, each individual's unique gifts are forthrightly showcased. Some of which are local Jacksonville residents, some of which are New York musicians, some of which are contemporary jazz greats, all of which I am greatly honored to call my musical peers.

I cannot offer enough thanks to all the people involved in this project. For the amazing band and our producer/drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr., who was nothing but helpful and supportive for the task's entirety, for the quality exhibited by Bunker Studios and Dave Darlington, our sound engineer, for all of my supporters back at home, to my friends and faculty at UNF, for the teachers who started me out the right way, Jim Daniel and Carol McQueen, for my family, who have instilled in me the values upon which an undertaking of this magnitude rests, and for God, who has guided me through the years, and has brought all of these amazing people together, for what I consider to be an intended appointment - a gathering foretold.
