Marcus Roberts + Big Band The Modern Jazz Generation Play NYC 5 Nights Jan. 7-11
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Genius pianist Marcus Roberts just announced tour dates for the first half of 2015. Roberts will bring his new 12-piece band, The Modern Jazz Generation - with whom he recently released a double LP called "Romance, Swing and the Blues' - to Jazz at Lincoln Center for a 5-night residency in January. The spring tour includes solo dates in Los Angeles and San Francisco and trio shows across the USA and Canada.

Watch Roberts recently profiled on '60 Minutes' here.
Originally commissioned by Jazz at Lincoln Center, 'Romance, Swing and the Blues' showcases HIS breadth as both composer and player and, according to Roberts, features three generations of "serious jazz musicians". The double LP explores the breadth of romantic feeling with the versatility and adventurousness that has defined Roberts' work, while the Modern Jazz Generation flaunts its impressive range - fluid and expressive, restrained and playful - over a variety of jazz styles.

The Modern Jazz Generation features Marcus Roberts Trio members Jason Marsalis and Rodney Jordan, veterans Ron Westray, Marcus Printup and Stephen Riley and a bevy of young up-and-coming musicians making their name in the jazz world.

'Romance, Swing and the Blues' follows a year in which Marcus Roberts was extensively profiled on '60 Minutes' and debuted his first concerto for piano and orchestra, 'Spirit of the Blues: Piano Concerto in C Minor.' He also released two albums, 'Together Again In The Studio' and 'Together Again,' with longtime collaborator Wynton Marsalis and an original 12-movement suite entitled 'From Rags to Rhythm.'
