New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Christina Aguilera teased her new album 'Liberation' during a concert in Azerbaijan this weekend. "X, X-tina, exhale, explore, express, experiment, exploit, exclusive, exist, expire," Aguilera narrates in the clip. "My existence has no expiration. This is my liberation. This is our liberation. Be liberated with me. It's time for a liberation!"
It's also been reported the first single off the album will be called "Accelerate." Her last full album was 2012's Lotus, though she released the single "
Change" in 2016, dedicated to shooting victim
Christina Grimmie and those wounded and killed at Pulse nightclub. That same year her disco-infused "Telepathy" appeared on the soundtrack for Netflix's The Get Down.
Aguilera's been upping her profile in recent months, appearing as the first judge on the current season of RuPaul's Drag Race and joining
James Cordon in a recent episode of Carpool Karaoke. Aguilera's next movie, Zoe, debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival last week.
Possibly signaling the theme of the new album, Aguilera recently opened up about the effects of growing up in an abusive home. "I watched my mom have to be submissive, watch her Ps and Qs or she's gonna get beat up," Aguilera told Paper magazine.
"You can either be, unfortunately, so damaged by it that you take a turn for the worse, or you can feel empowered by it and make choices to never go down that route," she added. Aguilera also discussed the difficulty faced by female pop artists, especially when she first arrived on the scene.
"Either women are not sexual enough or we're not fulfilling enough of a fantasy for you, but then if we're overtly sexual or feeling empowered in a certain kind of way, then we're shamed for it," the 37-year-old singer observed. The situation has gotten better, she admits, for women coming up in the business now.
"They don't have as much backlash when they come out on the scene. And I did. It was a very interesting and controversial time for me."
