Chaka Khan, Fred Hammond And Other Top Gospel And Jazz Artists Pay Tribute To Barbara A. Allen At The Nokia Theatre
LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ B. Allen Foundation) B. Allen Foundation, LLC announced that 10-time Grammy award winner Chaka Khan, Grammy award winner and gospel music icon Fred Hammond and other top gospel and jazz artists will pay tribute to the life and work of Barbara A. Allen at the Nokia Theatre, Thursday, October 6, 2011. A red carpet reception begins at 6:00 pm with "A Legacy In Song" tribute concert, celebrating 50 years of music starting at 7:30 pm.

"The night promises to be the concert event of the decade," commented Derrick D. Pete, one of the event's Executive Producers. "It takes an extraordinary person with a unique career, like that of Barbara A. Allen, to bring together such a diverse group of incredible talent spanning the music spectrum."

Along with Chaka Khan and Fred Hammond, other artists joining the celebration include: smooth jazz artist Phil Perry, Stellar Award nominee and vocal powerhouse Kathy Taylor, Grammy-nominated gospel artist Rev. Norman Hutchins, down home gospel sensation The Soul Seekers, national recording artist West Angeles Church of God in Christ Mass Choir, Bishop Noel Jones and the Verizon How Sweet The Sound finalist City of Refuge Sanctuary Choir, Rev. Dr. John J. Hunter and the First A.M.E. Cathedral and Unity Choirs and Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer and the Faithful Central Bible Church Mass Choir.

"This well-deserved tribute celebrates 50 years of music and heartfelt dedication. I look forward to lending my voice, along with others, to honor Barbara Allen," commented celebrated gospel artist Fred Hammond.

For the past 50 years, Barbara A. Allen has worked with some of the industry's top artists and choirs throughout the United States and around the world. Mrs. Allen began her career as a musical director for Motown artist Brenda Holloway, but her musical roots are deeply planted in the Southern California gospel community. On October 6, 2011, she will be honored by many of the artists she has served with over her illustrious career.

For twenty-nine years, Mrs. Allen has served as the Minister of Music at Faithful Central Bible Church under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer and for 17 years at First A.M.E. Los Angeles under Rev. Dr. Cecil L. "Chip" Murray and Rev. Dr. John J. Hunter.

"We are indebted to Barbara Allen for her many years of faithful leadership and musical genius. She brings a unique, creative energy to the worship experience that both inspires the choirs she directs and invigorates the congregations she serves. I am grateful to have had the privilege of serving with her," said Rev. Dr. John J. Hunter, senior pastor of First A.M.E. Los Angeles.

"God has given us a unique partnership that links the pulpit, the podium and the pew in harmony to the glory of God. Her service is being retired, her baton is being passed, but her spot, slot and shoes can never be filled," commented Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, senior pastor-teacher of Faithful Central Bible Church.

General admission seating for the tribute concert starts at $25. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster, the Nokia Theatre Box Office or on the campuses of Faithful Central Bible Church or First A.M.E. Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.ballenfoundation.com.
