Portugal's Most Edgy And Innovative Music Collective Buraka Som Sistema Is Set To Perform At The SXSW Music Festival On March 16, 2015
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Based in Portugal and being creators of "Zouk Bass" and "progressive Kuduro", Buraka Som Sistema is a band that has a characteristic mix of sounds and rhythms of electronic music with some sounds coming from Africa such as "zouk" and "kuduro". Their music has transcended continents, which is why they have been successfully performing at the best festivals of the world, including Coachella Music Festival (U.S.A.), Sonar Fest (Barcelona), Rock Al Parque (Colombia), and Fuji Rock (Japan), among many others; and for the first time, the band will perform at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, on Monday March 16th at the Spotify House at 2 PM.

The story of the band started more than 10 years ago when the wild Angolan Kuduro beat started to burst in the Lisbon [Portugal] clubs. Buraka Som Sistema - AKA Branko, Riot, Conductor, Kalaf and Blaya- started to experiment and merged the exciting rhythms with electronic music from the 21st century, giving birth to a completely new sound. Although Branko and Riot began making music together in their teens, the core of Buraka Som Sistema formed when the two began working with Angolan producer, Conductor, who brought along an extensive knowledge of Kuduro music to the equation, Angolan MC Kalaf, who translates his vast knowledge of music and culture into the right words at the right time with his signature deep voice and Brazilian dancer-turned-MC Blaya, whose provocative stage antics earned her a permanent spot in the group.

The five draw influences from the music of their youth and culture, fusing it with the inspiration taken from music genres as diverse as techno, drum'n'bass, hip hop and dance music, mixed with all sorts of exciting tropical-flavored music. This ongoing experiment in musical fusion gave way to the Zouk Bass genre, an unexpected blend of the slow and sexy Zouk beats (or its Lusophone relative Kizomba) with the modern bass-heavy electronica, which materialized in their captivating Upper Cuts track Zouk Flute.

Buraka Som Sistema have won several National and European Awards and recorded 4 albums, "From Buraka to the World" in 2006, which was followed by "Black Diamond" in 2009, and "Komba" in 2011, which defined the band's path; and in 2014 the latest highly anticipated album "Buraka" was released. The recent video of theor first single "Stoopid", directed by Vhils, has more than 1.3 million views, and the journey by the Global Club Music also features themes like "Vuvuzela", "Parede" and "Do Me Now", amongst others.

Join Buraka Som Sistema in their never-ending celebration of life, as they cross borders and genres to bring you wild, untamable rhythms, urging the listeners to drop their cares and run towards the nearest dance floor.
