LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Asia Music) - Wednesday 2nd April has been designated World Autism Awareness Day by the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and the UN General Assembly are highlighting the needs of 60 million people with autism around the world. World Autism Day was a proposal by Qatar - campaigners have welcomed it as it is an opportunity for autism organisations in every country to raise funds and organise autism awareness events. Musicians around the world are also poised to support this UN initiative. In London, the award winning Sri Lanka-born singer/songwriter Nimal Mendis will be re-releasing his song for autism, 'Open Every Door,' a moving song about a child with autism - through Media Eye Music. The new version will be sung by an Ambassador for Autism, a South Asian star Gresha Schuilling. Ms.Schuilling was appointed an Ambassador by the UK based Autism Awareness Campaign who are urging the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to launch a world strategy on autism and help families with autism in the Third World who are well below the poverty line. They have appealed to musicians around the world to support this call. Many children with autism in countries in Africa and Asia have virtually no access to education. Due to reasons of culture some children with autism are kept at home. Teachers and medical professionals also need training and early intervention is key. In the United Kingdom the Autism Awareness Campaign is appealing to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to 'open every door' to every child and adult with autism and Asperger's Syndrome by launching a national strategy on autism and a 10 year plan of action. There are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK. 'Open Every Door,' the Nimal Mendis song for autism will be released on 2nd April, to mark the United Nations World Autism Awareness Day.'Open Every Door,' is the cry of every parent and carer who is touched by autism.Music lovers around the world have been urged to support this song for autism.
