Biography
It would be a mistake to Pablo Lopez as a more melodic pop singer. He himself likes to joke with different sound: "Yes, it's pop with romantic touches," he says, "but as if you were playing in a bar in the wee hours of the morning."
What little we know so far is this 29 year old is Malaga who finished second in the edition of Operación Triunfo in 2008. Although we should not remain on the surface: there is much more to discover ...
Now it is time to get ahead in line and get in front. It does so with its new and first album, which combines the melodic pop of Spanish life, heir to Alejandro Sanz with piano instinct Billy Joel, Elton John and the Queen very same. "I have a British harmonic trend and the Spanish lyric." Mix Do you miss it? Well keep reading here is a good story.
Born in Malaga in 1984 and fuengiroleño heart, his parents have nothing to do with music. "Neither a distant cousin," he says. "My mother works at a hotel so everything was on my own. She bought me my first Spanish guitar when I was four years old. The music has been an obsession in my life since childhood. I was researching and filming with an old cassette." What was a game became an outlet. "If I had a problem: I took refuge in music".
And the piano: "... I started playing guitar piano scared But when I met my mind opened harmonically Then it was the instrument that I studied and now is an extension of me in live It's my language.".
Since then Paul does not remember living without it. At 17 he started playing in the hotels on the Costa del Sol. "It's a good way to make a living," he recalls fondly. Although his first salary was won in London, where he worked in a pub putting beers. A Paul throws a fit of candor when he recalls those months: "I went hungry," he says. "But that experience taught me a lot. Even once, not without some embarrassment, I pulled a gig in the London Underground my songs."
Paul has a background in classical music: harmony, music theory, chamber music and piano through sixth grade. In total ten years of conservatory. "I have the fortune or misfortune not to be used for something else," he continues. "There was only one university course that interested me. Journalism But I said, 'Man, you're going to starve," he jokes.
"It was not until my television time when I really start to compose seriously," he explains. "At first I wanted to make songs like listening to boy: a mixture of songwriters like Silvio RodrÃguez, Serrat, Sabina, mixed with British rock of the seventies, Supertramp, Queen, Pink Floyd ... and especially The Beatles."
There, while in 2008 he signed OT water, half with producer Kike Santander, which became the official song of the program and the World Expo in Zaragoza that year dedicated to water. "I have nothing against OT" he says. "Although according to which things can become a drag. I remember it fondly, because I had a great time." It was a stage in his life, no less important than others who had lived before, and he has left to live.
For Paul always had his feet on the ground. I knew that playing in front of 15,000 people in the tour game show was not a complete reality. So he never lost perspective beginning. And if you had to return to the small apartment, Fuengirola, where he first debuted with few people, it would without problems.
But time has come. "I face it with great responsibility, but with the feeling of having done their homework," said days before the album's release.
Recorded in Barcelona and mastered in London, has had production fanlo Kim, former Nena. A connection in which sparks have jumped. For better, of course: "It managed to bring the guitar-force usually print their productions at the piano," Paul explains. "I already had recorded many demos, but to know and start recording together decided to do a reset. Starting almost from scratch. We started to build the foundation."
The result is a different, elaborate, intense, cool, addictive and nuanced record. The song Vi, is the first preview: A risky song, which the canons of Spanish pop singer jumps usual. But it is also an interesting example of how and why Paul Lopez sounds. "It's one of those songs that invade you. It was not me to look but she found me. He appeared suddenly to settle in my life. I wrote it very quickly. It has an apocalyptic air. A progression that when the song is ending It is also as if the world were to end. Try to defeats and the glories of life. In any battle, won or lost, you learn something. Life moves so fast as a song and we must seize it. "
My house is one of the great themes of the album. It's about an eviction, but has several readings. "The situation of family they cast their house is terrible, but this song is written from the viewpoint of a person who works in a bank. I have someone very close. A woman with a good heart who was willing her kicked out of the bank because I was with a pressure not stand it anymore. I'm not going to change the world with the songs, but my duty to write about things I see. "
