Biography
Galena (born Galina Vicheva Gencheva on 21 May 1985 in Smyadovo, Bulgaria) is a renowned Bulgarian pop-folk singer celebrated for her dynamic vocal range, provocative style, and significant influence on the Balkan music scene. Since her debut in the early 2000s, she has become one of Bulgaria’s most streamed and awarded artists, known for blending traditional folk elements with contemporary pop and dance sounds.
Galena began singing at the age of four and pursued formal music education in folk singing at the music school in Shumen. After two years, she continued her studies in Dimitrovgrad. Her talent was discovered by singer Milko Kalaydzhiev, who played a pivotal role in launching her professional career.
2003–2006: Galena started her career under the stage name Galya, releasing her first single "Можеш ли" ("Can You?") in 2003. She adopted the name Galena in 2006, coinciding with the release of her self-titled debut studio album under the Payner Music label.
2007–2010: Her 2007 duet "Намерих те" ("I Found You") with Boris Dali became a significant hit. She released two more albums during this period: След 12 ("After 12") in 2008 and Официално забранен ("Officially Forbidden") in 2010.
2011–Present: Galena continued to evolve her musical style, releasing albums like Аз ("I") in 2011, Кой ("Who") in 2015, and GalenaXX in 2024. She has collaborated with numerous artists, including Preslava, Andrea, MC Stojan, and Fiki, and has been featured in various high-profile advertising campaigns.
In February 2008, Galena became engaged to her partner Galin. The couple welcomed their first son, Stefan, on 22 June 2009, and their second son, Aleksandar, on 17 February 2017.
