Biography

Mot (real name: Matvey Aleksandrovich Melnikov; born 2 March 1990 in Krymsk, Russia) is a Russian rapper, singer, and songwriter known for blending hip-hop with pop and R&B influences. He gained prominence in the Russian music scene through his association with the Black Star Inc. label and has since established a successful solo career.

Mot's musical journey began in his teenage years, with a passion for hip-hop and dance. At 19, he participated in the "Battle for Respect" contest on Muz-TV, which spotlighted emerging hip-hop talent in Russia. This exposure led to the adoption of his stage name, Mot, and the release of his debut album, Remote, in 2011, featuring collaborations with artists like Ilya Kireev and Katrin Mokko.

In 2013, Mot signed with Black Star Inc., a prominent Russian music label founded by rapper Timati. During his tenure with the label, he released several hit tracks, including "Soprano," "Solo," and "Kapkan," which showcased his lyrical prowess and melodic sensibility. His collaborations with artists such as Bianca, Ani Lorak, Jah Khalib, Misha Marvin, and Egor Kreed further cemented his status in the Russian pop and hip-hop scenes.

Mot's music is characterized by its fusion of contemporary hip-hop beats with soulful melodies and introspective lyrics. His songs often explore themes of love, personal growth, and urban life. Notable tracks include:
"Lilii" (feat. Jony)
"Lyubov' kak spetseffekt"
"Murashkami"
"Ty ryadom" (feat. Jah Khalib)
"Ne Bruklin"

In 2020, he released the album Parabola, followed by singles like "Like I Love You" (2023) and "Murashkami" (2023).

In January 2022, Mot departed from Black Star Inc. to pursue independent projects. This transition allowed him greater creative freedom, leading to collaborations such as "Beyond the Horizon" with Artik & Asti and the English-language track "Excuse My English" with 8MIRACLE.

Mot married Ukrainian model Maria Gural in 2016. The couple welcomed their son, Solomon, in 2018. Mot often shares glimpses of his family life with fans, including dedicating the song "Wedding" to his wife, featuring footage from their ceremony.

In January 2025, Mot released the single "Peremeny - Eto Krasivo" ("Changes Are Beautiful"), reflecting his continued evolution as an artist.
