BURBANK, CA. (Warner Bros. Records) - Secret Machines' video for "Nowhere Again," off their acclaimed Reprise Records debut "Now Here Is Nowhere," has been deemed Buzzworthy this week by MTV, and MTV2 Handpicked the video for the same song. The band also recorded a 2Dollar Bill concert for the network and was also part of their Discover and Download series.
Comprised of the brothers Ben and Brandon Curtis and Josh Garza, Secret Machines have been a fixture of the thriving Dallas music scene since the late Nineties. In the years since, the band relocated to New York City, released an independent EP "September 000." Their major label debut, "Now Here Is Nowhere," was released May 18th on Reprise Records, and according to Esquire, "'Now Here Is Nowhere' could become the word-of-mouth phenomenon of the year."
Since May, the album has already received a warm reception as critical acclaim has poured in. The Boston Globe advises, "Mark down the name Secret Machines. The group's new album, 'Now Here Is Nowhere,' has literally come out of nowhere with a neo-psychedelic sound that could make it one of the most acclaimed discs of the year." Elle magazine has described the band as "a Stereolab whose grooves feel as paranoid as they are pastoral." An apt description for a band that derives a major influence from The Band, Pink Floyd and other such acts who came to be at the crossroads of psychedelia and folk-rock. Add in a modern, indie-rock inspired makeover and you have an omnipotent sound and live show that appeal to music fans across the board. As Entertainment Weekly so eloquently put it: "'Now Here Is Nowhere' is solitaire rock for a new era, in which shutting out the world isn't just a luxury but sometimes a necessity."
