Suspicious Motives Records Announces The Release Of Bridget Fitzgerald's Two Sides Of A Coyne-Dha Thaobh Den Chadhanach
Boston, MA (Top40 Charts/ Suspicious Motives Records) TWO SIDES OF A COYNE includes seventeen traditional Irish songs recorded by Bridget Fitzgerald and her close friend, guitarist Carol Barney. Several years ago, following Carol's untimely death, the project was shelved. But all the while Bridget hoped to finish the album, partly as a tribute to Carol. Now, with the help of many musician-friends, she has been able to complete the journey.

FEATURED TRACKS include: Eileanóir a Rún, Droimín Donn Dílis, Amhrán Mhaoinse, Bonny Light Horseman, Over The Mountain, Dublin in the Rare Old Times, and The Foggy Dew.

With outstanding contributions to the original tracks made by Boston, MA and international Irish traditional musicians John Coyne, Shannon Heaton, Hanneke Cassel, Mike Block, Máirtín de Cógáin, Liz Simmons, Sean Clohessy, and Pat O'Connor & Eoghan O'Sullivan, the much anticipated release of TWO SIDES OF A COYNE has been well worth the wait.

TWO SIDES OF A COYNE is "…a most important chapter in our cultural legacy worldwide." Mick Moloney

A founding member of CHERISH THE LADIES, Bridget has taught sean-nós singing and Irish (Gaelic) at CCÉ Boston Music School and music camps throughout North America including the Augusta Heritage Center, The Swannanoa Gathering, Pinewoods Camp, and The Irish Arts Week. She has been a National Endowment for the Arts/Folk Arts Master Teacher. Bridget's song repertoire is extensive and is comprised of not only Irish (Gaelic), but also American traditional songs. She has been singing all her life and teaching and performing for more than 30 years.

Bridget was born and raised in Inverin in Connemara, an Irish-speaking area in county Galway, Ireland. It is from this region that her particular singing style of sean nós originates.

The late CAROL BARNEY played guitar most of her life, devoting her last decade to traditional Irish music. Study with Ossian's Tony Cuffe influenced her development of a unique fingerstyle guitar approach that can convey the grace of an old tune or match the magic of a ballad. She performed frequently with Bridget Fitzgerald as well as with guitarist John Sherman.

Old style Irish singing, or sean nós singing, says BRIDGET FITZGERALD "represents the heart and soul of Irish-speaking people". Melodically and rhythmically complex, sean nós singing can vary from singer to singer and region to region. Singers generally sing unaccompanied, and lyrics are sung either in Irish Gaelic or in English in the sean nós style.
