New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Razor & Tie) Donald Cumming has signed to Washington Square, the label imprint formed by Razor & Tie. Former lead singer and founder of the band The Virgins, Cumming has signed a worldwide multi-album deal and is finishing work on his debut studio album. On June 13th he will perform his ever first solo show to preview new songs at Bonnaroo at 1pm.
Donald Cumming comments, "I'm really excited to be signed with Washington Square. It's a great feeling to have a new home and a new album. Couldn't be happier to start this next chapter with them."
Washington Square/Razor & Tie A&R Executive Dylan Chenfeld adds, "I've been a fan of Donald's music since 2007. We're all very excited to be starting this next chapter of his career with him."
Donald Cumming has had a great deal of success in his brief career. With two albums and as many line ups, his band The
Virgins were both 'tomorrow's brightest stars' and 'yesterday's exiles.' The New York City based band received accolades and rave reviews until the bands break up in 2013.
NME called the band's last album a "dynamic listen" and described "how classic it sounds, Cumming's posturing sounding as if it's been lifted straight from a forgotten vinyl covered in dust and suspicious stains. It's
Dire Straits teamed with louche New York cool - a combination that shouldn't work, but totally does." The band performed on such shows as the Late Show with
David Letterman, Conan, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and Last Call with Carson Daly. His music has been featured on hit television shows including
Gossip Girl (entire episode of The
Virgins songs only), Entourage, Vampire Diaries as well as used in campaigns by such brands as Ray Bans, Honda, Samsung and Adidas. The
Virgins also toured arenas opening for The
Killers and opened for
Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith and others.
Cumming is managed by Ben Goldstein at
Total Recall Management and represented for touring in North
America by Dani Barrett at United Talent Agency.
Donald Cumming is the latest signing to Washington Square, an imprint formed by Razor & Tie. The band joins label mates The Hold Steady,
Jon Batiste and Stay Human and Born Cages.
