Institute Miami audio technology instructor Frank Socorro will be featured in an upcoming documentary movie about the life and career of five-time Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse. The film will be directed by Asif Kapadia and produced by
James Gay-Rees through his company Playmaker Films, along with Universal Music.
Winehouse rose to international fame with her multi- platinum-selling album "Back to Black", which was released in 2006 and featured engineering work by Socorro. She died in 2011 of accidental alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
"The

Socorro grew up in Washington Heights, NY and the Bronx, NY. He enrolled in Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL in 1998 and graduated with an Associate of Science Degree in Recording Sciences in 1999. He was hired as the studio manager for Grammy-nominated producer/songwriter/keyboardist Salaam Remi in 2004 and began engineering Remi's projects in 2005 - including "Back to Black", which featured Remi's productions of the songs "Me & Mr. Jones", "
Just Friends", "
Tears Dry On Their Own", "Some Unholy War", and "
Addicted". In 2011, Socorro joined the faculty of SAE
Institute Miami, specializing in microphones, Pro Tools, and mixing.
"Unlike most singers, Amy only did whole, continuous takes of her vocals and never punched in", says Socorro, who also engineered songs on Winehouse's posthumous release "Lioness" in 2011. "You could never stitch her different vocal tracks together because every take was an individual performance, and they would all be completely unique, from top to bottom."
The untitled documentary about Winehouse is scheduled for release in late 2014.
