NEW YORK (Capitol Records) - Multi-Platinum modern rock band
Everclear is celebrating its 10-year recording anniversary with a 21-track retrospective album and a U.S. tour. The album, TEN YEARS GONE - THE BEST OF EVERCLEAR 1994-2004, will be released by Capitol Records on October 5, and the tour will commence in Philadelphia on November 3.
Each fan will leave the show with a special 10th anniversary souvenir: CLOSURE, a free CD featuring unreleased live and acoustic tracks from Everclear. Along with a revamped website,
Everclear now has its first official fan club. Membership definitely has its privileges - fan club members can purchase pre-sale tickets online that grant them early admission to the venue and an opportunity to meet the band after the show. Additional details are available at www.everclearonline.com.
Drawing from Everclear's six previous albums, TEN YEARS GONE chronicles the growth of what Entertainment Weekly has called "one of rock's most deserving success stories." In ten years, the band has sold over 10 million records worldwide and won two Grammy awards. TEN YEARS GONE includes Everclear's numerous hits as well as its soundtrack contributions to
Romeo +
Juliet ("Local God") and
Detroit Rock City (a cover of Thin Lizzy's "
The Boys Are Back In Town") and two previously unreleased songs.
With its indie debut WORLD OF NOISE in 1994, Portland-based
Everclear was often labeled a grunge band. But fueled by singer/guitarist Art Alexakis' powerful songwriting,
Everclear proved to be an anomaly: a hard rock band with a singer-songwriter sensibility. With its string of radio hits,
Everclear evoked modern life in all its gritty splendor, grappling with such topics as addiction and divorce ("Heroin Girl," "Wonderful," "
Father Of Mine") yet emerging with a wistful optimism ("I Will Buy You A New Life") and bittersweet nostalgia ("AM Radio"). Alexakis, concluded Rolling Stone, is "one of the only rock stars around with anything to say about real life."
Increasingly, Alexakis has had a lot to say about politics. He recently served as an elected delegate representing Oregon's 3rd congressional district (Portland) at the Democratic
National Convention. A longtime supporter of Rock the Vote, Art's acoustic version of Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" is available for download at www.rockthevote.org and he will be performing an acoustic solo set at the Rock the Vote Show at the Roseland Theater in Portland on October 7.
