GuitarControl Releases "Blues Guitar Lesson: Danny Gatton Style Rhythm"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) In this guitar lesson, now available on YouTube.com, Jon MacLennan teaches a blues guitar lesson in the style of Danny Gatton from his forth coming course "Blues Power". Jon demonstrates a Gatton style 12 bar chord progression in the key of E using the hybrid picking technique. Guitar TAB's are available for this blues guitar lesson at GuitarControl.com.

Hybrid Picking is a technique where the guitarist uses a flat pick with the thumb and first finger and finger picks with the remaining fingers. Double Stops is the technique of playing two strings at the same time, usually done using the hybrid picking technique.

The 12 Bar Blues Progression is one of the most common chord progressions in popular music. It is most commonly based on the 1-4-5 or 1-4-5-b6 (flat 6) chord progressions. The last two measures are usually a turnaround. The Turnaround is used in many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).

Danny Gatton, a native of Washington DC, began playing the guitar at the age of 9. Danny joined his first band at age 12 and was an active musician from the 1960's through the 1990's until his death in 1994. He fused rockabilly, jazz, and country to create his own signature style of playing. Gatton is still considered as one of the all time greatest guitarists by his peers and played on 20 albums over his career.

Jon MacLennan
Los Angeles based guitarist Jon MacLennan began his career at the age of 16 and is one of the busiest upcoming session guitarist, artist, composer, producer, and professional educator in LA. Jon has done session work for Julian Lennon, Steven Tyler, and British pop star Jamie Cullum. He has appeared on Disney channels "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and on the sound track to the movie "Marley and Me 2 - The Puppy Years". MacLennan earned a bachelor's in ethnomusicology and jazz guitar studies from University of California, Los Angeles, and has been mentored by Carl Verheyen, Wolf Marshall, Kenny Burrell, Anthony Wilson, Tamir Hendelmen, Jimmy Wyble and Ron Anthony which has made him a highly sought after guitar instructor today.
