WHO: Pre K- 5th grade
WHERE: Ware Academy Gymnasium
Set sail with young Jim Hawkins aboard the Hispaniola for the mysterious Treasure Island, a tiny spot in the ocean believed to conceal the greatest of fortunes. On his swashbuckling adventures, Jim encounters the most legendary buccaneers in all of children's literature: the salty Billy Bones, the blind rogue Pew, the marooned Ben Gunn and the captivating Long John Silver. Generations of children have been thrilled by this rollicking tale of intrigue and piracy, and a young boy who must learn the value of honor and decency from the most unlikely teachers. Our merry musical adaptation leaves out the rum-soaked violence of the book in favor of the fun, the action, and the moral foundation of this timeless classic.

Mosaic Steel
WHEN: May 15, 1 to 2 p.m.
WHO: All grades
WHERE: Ware Academy Gymnasium
This program explores the history of steel drums from its French and English plantation beginnings in Trinidad and Tobago. From its African and Island inventors, came a long and traditional musical richness that developed into idiophones, or non-membrane drums, shaped to create pitches out of 55-gallon oil drums. These instruments have been celebrated and experimented on with musical innovation, call and response, slave insurrection, and modern musical interpretations. Students will gain a rich understanding of the survival of people, the multi-cultural unity, and the need for the arts to rise above all human emotion.
