Seven Davis Jr Releases "Get Serious"

New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Residing in Los Angeles, California, Seven Davis Jr was raised on the classics - from Michael Jackson and Prince to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. His early Bandcamp output was however more closely aligned to the city's vibrant left-leaning electronic underground. Nurtured by the Hit+Run crew, he owes his first official release to the insatiable beatminer Kutmah who bagged 'Thanks' for his Worldwide Family compilation on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint in 2012. The phased-out woozy Parrish-esque 4x4 groove was a stand-out cut and teased ahead to his incumbent love affair with house music and rapid rise to fame.



The past 18 months has seen Seven skip from a retrospective EP via Kutmah's IZWID imprint to releases with Must Have Records and Funkineven's Apron Records on a Peven Everett vs. Sa-Ra vs. Derrick Carter flex. No surprise then that Classic stepped up, seduced by Seven's mastery of sweetly swung rough 'n' ready boompty grooves; Four Tet and Martyn both hit up Seven for remixes; Benji B invited him for a Deviation session; and the plaudits from the electronic press (RA Feature) have tumbled forth. Most recently Seven collaborated with Doc Daneeka on a 12" for Ten Thousand Yen which saw BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe join the ever-expanding SDJr fan club, spinning 'What's It Gonna Be?' (check the video) as one of his "Next Hype" jams.
