The Golden Age Of Hi-Fi Returns As Onkyo Debuts Classic Turntable & Loudspeakers At CES 2015
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) With the renaissance of vinyl and increasing availability of high-resolution Studio Master-quality audio, Onkyo continues its rich tradition of hi-fi sound with two remarkable new products: the D-77NE Loudspeakers and the CP-1050 Turntable, both on display at the Onkyo booth within the Gibson Brands tent in the Central Plaza of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

D77NE Loudspeakers (MSRP $5000/pair)
For the first time ever, music lovers outside of Japan will have an opportunity to own a full-sized speaker capable of capturing the dynamics, scale, and detail contained in pure analog, 24-bit Hi-Res Audio, and DSD formats.

Three core elements combine to produce a signature sound that's rich, musical, and a real joy to experience—particularly for vinyl record and hi-res audio enthusiasts.

First is the Three-Way driver system. Manufactured using a non-press technique Onkyo pioneered over 50 years ago, the 30 cm paper woofer diaphragm is thicker, tougher, and lighter than conventional pressed cones to increase inner loss, control vibration, and provide stiffness for rhythmically accurate bass. A thick metal basket and massive motor lets the woofer reach deep into sub-bass territory with remarkable speed and agility.

For its proprietary Silk OMF drivers, Onkyo blends layers of strong and lightweight silk with polyester resin to provide stiffness for precise articulation of mid-range sounds such as vocals and guitar. High frequencies cross over at 3.2 kHz to a dome-and-cone tweeter arrangement consisting of a 2.5 cm aluminum-magnesium dome and 4 cm bio-cross diaphragm. Magnetic Distortion Cancellation Technology (M.D.C.T) in the crossover allows the driver to perform with detailed airiness up to 50 kHz.

The second major element contributing to the D-77NE's high performance is the crossover network, which features German-made WIMA fixed-film dielectric capacitors and three separate coils to prevent flux leakage. This crossover network has been painstakingly refined and improved to the point where each driver blends seamlessly to form a single cohesive audio image.

The third notable aspect is the speaker enclosure itself. A combination of solid MDF material—the baffle alone is 42 mm thick—and a handmade wood bracing system controls cabinet resonances in a similar way to an acoustic guitar body, lending a warm and natural tonality to music. Gold-plated machined brass speaker posts with knurled brass knobs and a gorgeous black wood-grain finish complete the D-77NEs.

CP-1050 Turntable (MSRP $599)
Aimed at music lovers looking to discover—or rediscover—the magic of analog sound, the CP-1050 features a super-smooth low-torque direct-drive motor that reduces low-frequency cogging noise as well as the high-frequency noise produced by some belt-driven designs which use a fast-spinning electric motor. The CP-1050 can play both LPs and 45s, and comes with an adapter for 7-inch records.

The body is constructed from thick, vibration-damping MDF and the platter is die-cast aluminum for smooth, precise, and stable rotation. Together with the low-noise motor and rubber slip-mat, the precision craftsmanship and weight of the deck combine to effectively reduce vibration for clear and open analog sound.
